Technology is ever-changing and omnipresent in our lives. User needs are constantly changing and people are trying to keep up with the emerging technological changes in their lives. Companies continuously face challenges keeping up with the shift to new technology trends. So, we’ve created a list of technological trends we see coming in 2023 to help you stay up to the minute.

Our blog post from a while back highlighted 6 emerging technologies and their applications. With this blog post, we are revisiting some new trends with some old trends that have stayed relevant through all these years and are still growing.

1. Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial Intelligence refers to systems that mimic human intelligence based on the data they collect. AI can be found in many forms, like recognizing faces or speech, providing automated recommendations, and processing a large amount of data.

With its presence everywhere around us including on our phones and in home appliances, AI is expected to see rapid growth in the coming years in many different industries. AI could have a significant impact on the healthcare industry. Changes and growth in the AI industry will also influence other technology trends in the coming years.

2. Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR)

Augmented Reality is often confused with Virtual Reality by many. Both do have some similarities but are different at the core. While Virtual Reality provides an immersive experience by stimulating the user’s hearing and vision to replace the real-life environment, Augmented Reality enhances real-life view by adding digital elements on top of the real world.

Even though these technologies are emerging fast, they are still growing and require more traction. Currently used commonly in the Gaming Industry, Virtual and Augmented Reality technologies are expected to make a breakthrough in other industries like Healthcare, Engineering, Entertainment, Real Estate, and others soon.

There is also a great deal of effort being taken for Metaverse expansion. With initiatives by Meta, we can expect to immerse ourselves in this technology in the coming years. Although it is unlikely to have major changes by 2023, advancements and improvements are bound to take place.

3. 5G Network

While talking about emerging technologies and trends, we can’t leave out the 5G network. The 5G network provides unprecedented data speeds faster than wireless home broadbands. 5G network is still evolving and has become more common now. It is still available only in certain areas and some developed nations.

5G is already being used and 5G remote production is one of the earliest use cases. This allows broadcasters to produce news, entertainment, and events with fewer camera operators but with more cameras. It not only makes the process more efficient but also enables staff to work on multiple projects in one day.

4. Datafication

Our lives are so intertwined with Data and technology. Datafication also known as Datafy refers to transforming our lives into data-driven devices, technologies, tools, and processes.

Organizations and businesses require data for business needs and decision-making. With many industries using Datafication, it becomes important to understand that every data source can have its limitations and relying heavily on numbers can have some negative effects as well.

With many controversies surrounding Datafication and how it can be used to discriminate against certain individuals, storing and ethically securing data is the next step in changing and transforming our economy for the better.

5. Zero Trust Security

Cyberattacks have become more common and dangerous because of increasing numbers of scammers, hackers, phishing attacks, and other digital criminal activities. The need to protect data and the importance of privacy has led to the term Zero trust, first coined by John Kinderwag in 2010.

With Zero Trust, anyone attempting to access a network is considered a threat to the system. Zero Trust Architecture requires identity inspection and verification for anyone and everyone who wants to connect to the network.

With more Datafication, Zero Trust could become extremely important for all the organizations dealing with consumer data.

6. NFT

The term NFT stands for Non-Fungible Token. To make it less complicated, think of it as a one-of-a-kind trading card. NFTs are built on the blockchain technology. Unlike bitcoin, NFTs are traded for digital objects like sketches, music and other forms of art.

NFTs prove ownership of unique digital assets. NFTs are transformational for the digital sphere and its landscape is changing and growing by the day. This technology is moving beyond art and could soon be utilized more for business purposes.

7. Quantum Computing

Quantum Computing is another exceptional technology that is a form of computing that uses quantum principles like superposition and quantum entanglement. This technology helps prevent the spread of viruses which also included covid-19 and develop new vaccines. This is because of its ease and ability to monitor, analyze and act on the data.

Quantum Computing could be used in banking and financial sectors to manage and reduce credit risk and detect fraud. Quantum Computers are faster than regular computers and with many companies making significant innovations, we can see major advances coming in the field of Quantum Computing.

8. Smellovision

Smell-O-Vision allows users to experience various kinds of smells while using a device or watching something on the screen. This concept works on providing a more immersive experience to the users. The term first came into existence while attempting to incorporate smell into films by Mike Todd Jr and Hans Laube.

Currently, Olorama Technology has successfully implemented scent generators that can be installed in cinemas and homes. It is expected that by 2023, this technology could be implemented in other consumer products and devices. This technology could also be applied to virtual and augmented reality through the devices to make them more immersive.

To know how this smell-based digital media technology performs, we will have to wait for the user’s feedback in the coming years.

Conclusion

We can expect more comprehensive digital and technological changes in the coming year. It’s important to be careful of the changes even while embracing some of the most intelligent transformational technologies.
